On 29 January 2026 in New Delhi, the International Labour Organization convened a multi-stakeholder dialogue on Responsible Business Conduct for decent work, bringing together representatives from employers’ and workers’ organizations, government institutions, enterprises and other partners. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to advance responsible business practices in India, particularly in the context of evolving global trade and supply chains.
A key highlight of the event was the official launch of a historic Bipartite Roadmap on promoting Responsible Business Conduct for decent work in India. Developed jointly by employers’ and workers’ organizations through year-long consultations and capacity-building efforts under an ILO-supported programme, the roadmap reflects shared ownership and commitment from both sides. It is aligned with the ILO’s MNE Declaration and outlines actions to embed responsible practices across business operations and value chains, including the proposal to establish a national tripartite-plus committee to advance implementation.
Panel discussions during the dialogue explored practical steps for translating commitments into workplace improvements. Participants emphasized the importance of institutionalized multi-stakeholder engagement, stronger compliance with national labour laws, inclusive implementation across sectors and supply chains, and continuous social dialogue to build trust and accountability. The discussions also highlighted the need for coordinated mechanisms to monitor progress and ensure sustained action.
The initiative forms part of the ILO’s regional project on building responsible value chains in Asia, supported by the Government of Japan. It aims to promote inclusive, sustainable enterprises and decent work by strengthening the capacity of governments, employers and workers to integrate responsible business conduct into policies and business practices.
