The European Union, Switzerland, Sweden and the Czech Republic have invested €12.5 million through the MEG/EU4MEG project to strengthen local governance and modernise water services in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the project supported 29 municipalities, benefiting more than one million citizens. Over 80% of participating local governments improved management systems, transparency and public access to information.
In the water sector, reforms enhanced operational efficiency, reduced water losses and improved service monitoring. A results-based funding model ensured financial support was tied to measurable performance.
The next phase, MEG3, will focus on institutionalising reforms and ensuring long-term sustainability in public administration and water management.
