The South African government has invited journalists to participate in the 2026 SADC Media Awards competition, which is open to media practitioners from all SADC Member States. Submissions are accepted across four categories: Photo Journalism, Print Journalism, Television Journalism, and Radio Journalism.
Since its establishment in 1996, the SADC Media Awards have celebrated excellence in journalism that promotes regional cooperation, integration, and development throughout Southern Africa. The awards recognise journalists whose work highlights the shared values, principles, and aspirations of the SADC region.
Winners in each category will receive US$2,500, while runners-up will be awarded US$1,000. These awards support SADC’s broader vision of fostering economic well-being, improved standards of living, peace, security, freedom, and social justice across member states.
By encouraging reporting that strengthens regional bonds and enhances public understanding of SADC initiatives, the awards play a key role in advancing the organisation’s mission. Journalists interested in entering the competition can find more details on the Government Communications website.
