Kentucky FFA Foundation Receives $11 Million Donation from Bill Gatton Foundation

Dated: August 27, 2025

The Kentucky FFA Foundation has received a historic $11 million gift from the Bill Gatton Foundation, marking the largest donation ever made to any FFA Foundation in the United States. Announced at a news conference during the Kentucky State Fair, the donation is set to create unprecedented opportunities for more than 24,000 Kentucky students who are members of FFA, enhancing their leadership and agricultural education experiences.

Funds from the gift will be used to expand current programs and introduce new initiatives for FFA members. Planned enhancements include upgrades to the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center and FFA camp experiences, additional camp scholarships for individual members and chapters, increased prize money for state Career and Leadership Development Event winners, and a Foundation-led bus tour to the FFA Washington Leadership Conference for up to 100 students, with additional scholarships for those with financial need. A Forever Blue endowment will also be established for the Muhlenberg and McLean County FFA chapters. In recognition of this gift, the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center will be renamed the Carol Martin Gatton Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center.

Kentucky FFA Foundation Executive Director Sheldon McKinney highlighted Bill Gatton’s legacy of leadership and philanthropy, noting that this donation will offer life-changing opportunities for generations of FFA members. Gatton, who served as Kentucky FFA State President in 1950, has had a lasting impact on the organization through his personal and philanthropic contributions. His gift is expected to help students use FFA as a platform to become successful entrepreneurs, leaders, and active members of their communities.

FFA is an intracurricular student organization that supports youth interested in agriculture and leadership. In 2024, Kentucky FFA members earned over $13.2 million through work-based projects and completed 26,489 hours of community service, demonstrating the organization’s significant role in student development and community engagement.
