Stony Brook University has received a $1 million grant from the Gray Foundation to support undergraduate scholarships for New York City public school students. The funding will enable 10 students admitted through SUNY’s Top 10% Promise program to live on campus and graduate debt-free. These students, who come from low-income backgrounds and are among the top 10% of their high school class, will pursue degrees in fields such as computer science, environmental science, and psychology.
The Gray NYC Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support covering tuition, fees, room and board, books, transportation, and personal expenses. In addition, students can access enrichment funds for activities such as study abroad, summer courses, and unpaid internships. Each scholar will also receive a college success coach and career development services to enhance academic and professional outcomes.
Eligibility criteria include being a resident of one of NYC’s five boroughs, full-time enrollment, high financial need, no other substantial scholarships, and a commitment to living on campus. This initiative supports SUNY’s efforts to expand access and equity in higher education while promoting economic mobility through strategic partnerships with philanthropic organizations.
