Hampshire County Council has announced over £100,000 in new funding to enhance mental health and wellbeing support for primary school children. This investment will expand the successful “My Happy Mind” programme into schools across North-East Hampshire, making it accessible to all primary schools in the county.
The programme helps children better understand their emotions, build confidence, and develop resilience through a whole-school approach involving pupils, teachers, staff, and families. Activities include classroom discussions, games, assemblies, and online resources with live coaching for parents.
With one in six children aged 5 to 16 now likely to face a diagnosable mental health condition, early intervention is critical. This initiative reflects growing recognition of the importance of supporting children’s mental wellbeing and forms part of Hampshire’s broader strategy to improve mental health and reduce health inequalities.
Schools will be able to access the funded programme throughout the next year.
