Capricorn Foundation Boosts Rural Revive with N$1.2 Million to Support Sustainable Rural Development in Namibia

Dated: June 8, 2026

The Capricorn Foundation has approved an additional investment of N$1.2 million into the Rural Revive initiative, reinforcing its long-term commitment to inclusive economic development, environmental sustainability, and rural livelihood creation in Namibia.

The latest funding, approved in May 2026, will support a 12-month consolidation phase of the Rural Revive project in Maltahöhe. The initiative aims to strengthen infrastructure, operational systems, and organisational capacity to ensure that earlier development gains can be sustained and scaled effectively.

Rural Revive, an initiative under the Wolwedans Foundation’s AridEden Vision 2050, is building a locally driven desert economy that integrates horticulture, waste management, logistics, skills training, and community participation into a unified development model. The Capricorn Foundation has been a key early supporter of the project, with prior investments of N$1 million in 2023 and N$1.17 million in 2025, bringing its total contribution to N$3.37 million.

The new funding will be directed toward strengthening core operational areas, including project management systems, infrastructure upgrades at the Waste Management Facility in Marauns Garage, and the development of the Desert Runner Terminal for fresh produce logistics. Additional support will also go toward expanding the horticulture campus, seedling nursery operations, and the Andrewville Community Hub.

An independent external evaluation conducted in March 2026 highlighted that Rural Revive has already developed a functioning ecosystem linking production, recycling, training, and logistics systems. The report recommended a consolidation phase to ensure long-term sustainability and operational stability.

Over recent years, the initiative has made measurable progress, including the establishment of more than 1,000 square meters of cultivated beds under drip irrigation and the development of a seedling nursery capable of producing over 2,200 trays. More than half of these seedlings have been distributed to surrounding communities, contributing to local food security and agricultural capacity building.

The project has also collected over 175,000 bottles through its recycling efforts, created livelihood opportunities in waste management and horticulture, and supported apprenticeship programs in agricultural training. In addition, Rural Revive received a Gold award in the Regenerative Tourism category at the WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards 2026, recognizing its contribution to sustainable rural development.

According to the Capricorn Foundation, the investment aligns with its focus on economic advancement and supports broader development goals related to decent work and skills development. The foundation emphasized that the initiative represents a scalable model for rural economic resilience that could be replicated in other underserved regions.

With this latest funding, the Capricorn Foundation aims to further strengthen Rural Revive’s transition from implementation to long-term consolidation, ensuring continued impact for rural communities in Namibia.
