Geneva — June 5, 2026 — Azerbaijan has officially ratified the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187), becoming the 75th country to do so and completing the ratification of all fundamental International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions.
At a ceremony on June 3, 2026, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, Mr. Anar Aliyev, presented the instrument of ratification to ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo. Minister Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to promoting a preventive safety and health culture, stating: “This important step reflects Azerbaijan’s determination to protect workers’ well-being and further align its national policies with international labour standards.”
ILO Director-General Houngbo welcomed the milestone, noting: “With this ratification, Azerbaijan has now ratified all fundamental standards and once again affirmed its strong commitment to the fundamental principles and rights at work, including the right to a safe and healthy working environment.”
This achievement underscores Azerbaijan’s dedication to advancing occupational safety and health, strengthening worker protections, and aligning national frameworks with international standards. It also highlights the country’s role in supporting global efforts to ensure safe, healthy, and decent work environments.
