New Forests has launched its Global Landscape Opportunities strategy, marking the firm’s first global natural capital fund. The new fund is designed to invest across forestry, agriculture, carbon, biodiversity, and other nature-based real asset markets.
The Sydney-based investment manager is reportedly seeking to raise A$1 billion, equivalent to about US$707 million, for the new strategy. The fund aims to give institutional investors access to a diversified global portfolio of natural capital assets at a time when demand for nature-based investment opportunities is increasing.
Founded in 2005, New Forests manages institutional investment funds focused on natural capital and nature-based real assets. Its investment areas include forests, agricultural land, carbon projects, conservation areas, and related infrastructure.
The Global Landscape Opportunities strategy is intended to support long-term financial returns while also contributing to environmental outcomes. These include climate stability, biodiversity protection, sustainable land use, and improved management of natural resources.
New Forests Chief Executive Officer Mark Rogers said investors are increasingly seeking scalable and diversified exposure to natural capital. He noted that natural capital is becoming a core part of resilient investment portfolios because it offers the potential for long-term returns while supporting climate and biodiversity goals.
The fund will target a globally integrated portfolio of natural capital assets. Under its proposed allocation, 60% to 80% of the portfolio will be invested in developed markets, including the United States, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
The strategy may also allocate up to 30% of the portfolio to developed Latin American markets such as Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile. A maximum of 20% may be invested in Southeast Asia, other Latin American regions, and Africa.
The fund will invest across sustainable forestry assets, agricultural land, food production systems, carbon and climate-related investments, biodiversity markets, and ecosystem markets. This broad investment scope reflects the growing role of natural capital in both climate finance and institutional portfolio diversification.
The Global Landscape Opportunities fund is open only to institutional investors. Its target investors include pension funds, insurance companies, family offices, endowments, and foundations.
Overall, the launch signals New Forests’ ambition to expand its natural capital investment platform globally. By combining forestry, agriculture, carbon, biodiversity, and ecosystem markets, the fund seeks to capture long-term value from nature-based assets while supporting environmental resilience and sustainable land use.
