A high-level thematic knowledge event titled “Strengthening and Consolidating Africa’s Financial Systems and Agency in the Changing World” will take place on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 at the Kintélé International Conference Center in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, as part of the African Development Bank Group’s 2026 Annual Meetings.
The 45-minute session, scheduled from 17:15 to 18:00, will bring together senior leaders from central banks, development finance institutions, regulatory bodies, and global financial organizations to discuss how Africa can build stronger and more resilient financial systems in response to global economic uncertainty, fragmented markets, and tightening financial conditions.
The discussion will focus on how African economies can strengthen domestic financial institutions, deepen regional financial integration, and improve regulatory frameworks to mobilize development finance at scale. It will also examine key findings from the African Economic Outlook 2026 thematic chapter, which explores reforms needed to enhance Africa’s financial architecture and expand access to capital for long-term development.
The event will feature a wide range of speakers from influential institutions across Africa and beyond, including development banks, central banks, and international financial organizations. Participants will share insights on financial sector reform, cross-border integration, risk mitigation, and innovative financing mechanisms aimed at accelerating sustainable growth across the continent.
The session is expected to contribute to ongoing policy discussions on strengthening Africa’s financial agency in a rapidly changing global environment. It will also provide a platform for experts to evaluate policy recommendations and propose practical solutions for improving coordination among financial institutions and expanding investment flows into African economies.
As part of the broader African Development Bank 2026 Annual Meetings, the event underscores the importance of financial resilience, institutional reform, and regional cooperation in enabling Africa to secure greater control over its development trajectory and future economic transformation.
