The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced a financing package of up to €25 million for BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama, one of Türkiye’s leading privately owned leasing companies. The funding is intended to support businesses across the country in adopting sustainable and climate-friendly investments, helping improve resilience and accelerate the transition toward a greener economy.
The project marks the first transaction under the Türkiye Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) III. Through this initiative, the financing will be directed toward businesses investing in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate-resilient technologies. The programme aims to encourage environmentally sustainable development while helping companies reduce operational costs and improve long-term resilience against climate-related challenges.
A key focus of the financing package is support for regions severely affected by the February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye. At least 30 percent of the funding has been earmarked for green investments in these earthquake-hit areas to help local businesses rebuild using more efficient, resilient, and sustainable technologies. The financing seeks to address affordability barriers and encourage long-term investment in reconstruction and climate adaptation.
Of the total package, the EBRD is providing €23.5 million, while an additional €1.5 million comes from the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund. Beyond direct financing, the project also includes technical cooperation support from the EBRD aimed at strengthening BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama’s institutional capacity in areas such as climate governance, green lending practices, and risk management. The initiative also promotes equal access to finance for women, supporting broader financial inclusion goals.
EBRD officials highlighted the importance of partnering with local financial institutions to expand green investments where they are most needed. The programme is expected to help businesses across Türkiye invest in cleaner and more resilient technologies while providing targeted support to regions still recovering from the devastating earthquakes. BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama also emphasized its commitment to sustainable growth and increasing access to green financing as part of its broader international leasing operations.
The leasing company has a long-standing partnership with the EBRD and previously participated successfully in the GEFF II programme. Its strong presence in Türkiye’s construction sector and nationwide reach position it to play an important role in scaling up green investments, particularly in areas requiring extensive reconstruction and modernization. Since 2009, the EBRD has invested more than €24 billion in Türkiye through hundreds of projects aimed at strengthening sustainable development, private-sector competitiveness, and economic resilience.
