The Santa Monica Education Foundation raised over $400,000 for local public schools during its eleventh annual wine auction, while also introducing a new student-focused investment initiative. The event, held at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, brought together around 400 community leaders, donors, and supporters, reflecting strong local engagement in education funding.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the Samohi Student Investment Club, a first-of-its-kind program designed to give students hands-on experience in managing a real investment portfolio. Participants will research investment opportunities, develop strategies, and make decisions under the guidance of the Foundation’s Investment Committee, combining practical financial education with real-world application.
The initiative is structured to generate long-term financial support for Santa Monica public schools, with returns from the student-managed portfolio directed toward the Foundation’s Arts and Athletics Endowments. This approach not only builds students’ financial literacy but also contributes to sustainable funding for programs that benefit the wider school community.
The program also supports the development of a permanent Athletics Endowment, which has already secured over $500,000 in gifts and commitments. Additional fundraising efforts, including a planned community event during Samohi Homecoming, are expected to further strengthen this initiative.
The wine auction itself featured tastings from local restaurants, wineries, and spirits partners, along with performances by student musicians, including the Samohi Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Band. The evening combined entertainment with fundraising, reinforcing the Foundation’s mission to create lasting opportunities for students.
Funds raised from the event will be used to enhance academic programs, support arts education, fund instructional assistants, and provide grants that benefit all Santa Monica public schools. The event also highlighted strong partnerships with local businesses and sponsors, underscoring a shared commitment to supporting education and community development.
