The Government of Canada is advancing its commitment to strong communities through the Build Communities Strong Fund, announced in Budget 2025. This $51 billion, 10-year initiative aims to enhance critical infrastructure across the country, including hospitals, schools, bridges, water systems, and transit networks, supporting economic growth, housing development, and climate adaptation. The fund is expected to create an average of 42,000 jobs per year and boost Canada’s GDP by $95 billion over the next decade.
The fund is structured into three major streams: Provincial and Territorial, Direct Delivery, and Community, with federal contributions matched by nearly $17 billion from provinces and additional investments from municipal, territorial, and private partners. The Direct Delivery stream has already launched funding for 13 projects totaling $300 million, with more projects to be announced. These investments are designed to strengthen communities, support local economies, and improve public services.
In Quispamsis, New Brunswick, the federal government has committed over $2 million to expand the water distribution system along Hampton Road. This project will provide a safe and reliable supply of drinking water, enabling the development of up to 1,055 housing units and supporting future residential and commercial growth. The investment also addresses infrastructure challenges that can hinder productivity and economic activity, while creating skilled trade jobs.
Officials highlight that modern infrastructure is essential for community growth, housing affordability, and economic confidence. The fund’s focus includes rural, northern, and Indigenous communities, with at least 10–20% of funding allocated to these areas. Federal funding under the program is conditional on meeting environmental assessment obligations, Indigenous consultations, and adherence to the Buy Canadian Policy, ensuring that projects support local economies and workforce development.
The Build Communities Strong Fund reflects Canada’s long-term strategy to strengthen public infrastructure, support population growth, and improve quality of life for communities across the country.
