UNDP has handed over 118 climate-resilient homes to families affected by the devastating 2022 floods in Hanna-Urak, located in Quetta. The newly constructed houses aim to provide safer and more secure shelter to communities whose homes were destroyed during the disaster.
The handover ceremony was attended by Mir Murad Baloch, along with senior representatives from UNDP and officials from the provincial government. The initiative reflects a collaborative effort to support recovery and resilience among flood-affected populations.
This housing project is part of a broader Flood Reconstruction and Coordination Programme under which UNDP is facilitating the construction of 700 climate- and disaster-resilient homes across Balochistan. With the latest distribution, a total of 158 houses have now been completed and handed over, while the remaining units are expected to be finalized in the coming months as the project progresses according to schedule.
Speaking at the event, Samuel Rizk emphasized the importance of strong partnerships in rebuilding communities affected by climate-related disasters. He noted that UNDP, in collaboration with the German government and the Government of Balochistan, remains committed to helping families recover by providing safer and more resilient housing solutions.
