Colombo, Sri Lanka, 27 February 2026: The European Union has announced an additional allocation of €1 million (over LKR 370 million) to help address the ongoing humanitarian impact of Tropical Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka. This funding aims to support affected communities and enhance existing relief efforts throughout the country. Administered through humanitarian partner organizations, the funds will be used to provide essential services to those in need.
This latest contribution builds on earlier European Union support that was mobilized immediately after Tropical Cyclone Ditwah struck in late November 2025. The cyclone caused severe flooding and landslides across all 25 districts, resulting in widespread damage to homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure. Prior assistance included €2.35 million in emergency humanitarian funding delivered through EU partner organizations, along with engineering expertise and in-kind aid from France, Germany, Italy, and Luxembourg, to strengthen Sri Lanka’s national emergency response and coordination on the ground.
