Rimutaka Boosts Capabilities with $11,000 Grant Support

Dated: March 2, 2026

Rimutaka GymSports in Upper Hutt, Wellington, with approximately 380 members, has secured $11,000 in funding from Aotearoa Gaming Trust to support coach and judge education. The grant highlights how careful planning, teamwork, and strategic preparation can unlock meaningful investment in sport development.

The successful application was led by committee member Mike, who coordinated course requirements, travel costs, and pathway details to ensure the proposal was clear, accurate, and aligned with the club’s development goals. Jo, head of women’s artistic gymnastics, mapped the club’s training needs from grassroots to World Gymnastics Level 1, liaised directly with coaches and volunteers, and collaborated with her relationship manager to bring a junior coach course to Wellington, significantly reducing travel costs. Club manager Brooke contributed by providing all necessary governance and financial documentation, completing the well-coordinated submission.

This collaborative approach—identifying needs, aligning priorities, preparing supporting evidence, and sharing the workload—resulted in a compelling application and a successful outcome. Funding like this strengthens capability across gymnastics in Aotearoa by supporting higher-quality coaching, consistent standards, and clear pathways for athletes at all levels.

The achievement of Rimutaka GymSports demonstrates the value of organisation and clear development priorities, serving as a strong example of how clubs can effectively secure funding to grow and enhance their programs.
