The Charité Competence Center for Traditional and Integrative Medicine (CCCTIM) at Charité Universitätsmedizin in Berlin has been designated as the WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional, Integrative, and Preventive Medicine for the next four years. This is the first collaborating centre to support the Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC) in this thematic area, establishing Berlin as a key hub for traditional and integrative medicine within the WHO European Region.
The designation confirms CCCTIM’s role in advancing evidence-based research, supporting the integration of traditional and integrative practices into health systems, and strengthening global knowledge exchange. Its work plan focuses on three major areas in line with the WHO Strategy on Traditional Medicine: clinical research on integrative therapies, health system integration and policy research, and dissemination of evidence at international traditional medicine platforms. Activities include reviewing existing research, conducting pilot clinical studies, generating real-world evidence, analyzing health-care utilization patterns, developing best-practice implementation frameworks, contributing to policy dialogues, and supporting global forums through publications, events, and training materials. Each initiative is structured to support the GTMC’s mandate and the WHO Strategy.
CCCTIM is jointly led by Professor Dr. med. Georg Seifert and Dr. Hiba Boujnah, whose expertise spans clinical care, research methodology, health policy development, and medical documentation. The centre’s infrastructure, including clinical units, research teams, documentation resources, and access to Charité’s core facilities, provides a strong foundation for delivering the four-year workplan effectively.
This designation highlights the GTMC’s commitment to generating high-quality scientific evidence, assisting Member States in building integrative health models, and fostering global knowledge exchange in collaboration with WHO and international partners.
