Community groups in Solihull now have the opportunity to bid for a share of nearly £400,000 in funding to support local neighbourhood projects. The funding comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), collected from new developments, and is available this year for groups in five wards: Elmdon, Knowle, Shirley East, Shirley South, and St Alphege. The money, including unallocated funds from previous years, is distributed either directly to parish and town councils or placed into ward-specific pots where no council exists.
Eligible bids must be submitted by Friday 22 May 2026 and can be made by a wide range of organisations, including residents’ associations, registered charities, state schools, or statutory infrastructure providers. Applicants must be formally constituted, have proper financial management, and meet basic governance requirements such as having a bank account with two unrelated signatories and at least two unrelated management committee members for unincorporated groups.
The CIL funding is designed to make a meaningful difference to local communities, while additional support and alternative funding options for voluntary and community sector projects are available through Solihull Council’s Community Development Team and Warwickshire & Solihull Community and Voluntary Action.
