The Government of New South Wales under the Minns Labor Government is investing nearly $1 million in a new grant initiative aimed at strengthening Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) that support children and families across New South Wales. The Governance, Resilience, Opportunities and Workforce (GROW) Grants Program is designed to build the long-term sustainability and capability of Aboriginal-led organisations, reinforcing the government’s commitment to Closing the Gap and supporting a strong community-controlled sector.
The funding round focuses particularly on small and emerging ACCOs, helping them enhance their internal capacity and service delivery. Grant funds can be used to improve governance structures, workforce development, strategic business planning, financial sustainability, and data capability. By targeting these core operational areas, the program aims to ensure that Aboriginal organisations are well-equipped to provide culturally responsive and community-driven support services.
The GROW Grants Program offers one-off grants across two funding categories, ranging from $3,000 to $50,000. Applications are open until 19 March 2026, with successful applicants to be notified in May 2026. Minister for Families and Communities Kate Washington emphasized that the investment reflects a record commitment to Aboriginal community services, acknowledging the vital role these organisations play in providing connection, cultural strength, and support for Aboriginal children and families. Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Treaty David Harris highlighted that direct investment in ACCOs empowers communities to design and deliver solutions tailored to their needs, aligning with broader Closing the Gap priorities and ensuring sustainable, Aboriginal-led services for future generations.
