The Government of Madagascar has launched a new phase of strategic projects to accelerate the sustainable, inclusive and resilient transformation of its food systems, with support from the European Union and the United Nations Joint SDG Fund. Led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the initiative forms part of the country’s national roadmap to strengthen food and nutrition security, improve climate resilience and promote decent job creation, while mobilizing greater public and private investment.
This acceleration phase builds on existing flagship programmes, including initiatives supporting regional agricultural policy implementation and scalable food systems models. It also incorporates a catalytic programme in the Anosy region focused on climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive agriculture and employment generation. These projects are implemented in collaboration with UN agencies and funded by the European Union and the Joint SDG Fund, reflecting a coordinated international partnership.
The new phase aims to enhance governance, strengthen policy coherence and improve coordination among public institutions, private actors and development partners. A national steering committee has been formalized to guide implementation, with regional launches planned to ensure strong local ownership. Through this renewed commitment, Madagascar seeks not only to increase agricultural production, but to build a more resilient, environmentally sustainable and inclusive food system for the future.
