As global labour markets continue to shift, the Government of Canada is investing in initiatives that strengthen workforce participation and ensure access to meaningful employment opportunities. The Honourable Anna Gainey announced $6.8 million in funding over five years to support approximately 1,800 members of the English-speaking community in Quebec’s Eastern Townships through the Townshippers’ Association’s Guide program.
The initiative will provide tailored employment assistance, skills development workshops and hands-on learning opportunities designed to improve job readiness and long-term career prospects. By connecting participants with local employers and workplaces, the program aims to help English-speaking Quebecers in the region secure and maintain meaningful employment while addressing local labour market needs.
The funding is delivered through the Employment Assistance Services stream of the Enabling Fund for Official Language Minority Communities program. It forms part of broader federal efforts under the Action Plan for Official Languages 2023–2028, which supports economic development, promotes bilingualism and strengthens official language minority communities across Canada.
Through this investment, the government seeks to foster a more inclusive and resilient workforce in the Eastern Townships, support local businesses in accessing skilled talent, and reinforce the economic vitality of official language minority communities.
