The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved R$148.5 million in financing for Bioo Paraná Holding SA to build a biomethane plant in Toledo, western Paraná. The total investment for the project is R$196 million, with R$101.5 million coming from the Climate Fund and R$47.1 million from the Finem credit line, which supports larger-scale projects.
The new facility will produce 11 million cubic metres of biomethane annually, with operations expected to prevent around 80 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions each year. The plant will also generate 210 direct and indirect jobs during construction and an additional 90 once operational.
Beyond biomethane, the project will produce organic matrix fertiliser, widely used in agriculture in western Paraná. Biogenic CO₂, generated naturally during production, will be purified to food-grade quality and supplied to industries such as beverages, replacing fossil-derived CO₂.
By integrating renewable energy generation, organic waste reuse, and the supply of industrial inputs, the initiative contributes to the decarbonisation of the regional production chain and strengthens Brazil’s circular economy.
BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante highlighted that the project directs organic waste toward high-value products like biomethane and CO₂, mitigating environmental impacts while supporting the country’s energy transition goals. Bioo CEO Maurício Cótica emphasized that the funding reinforces the company’s model of converting organic waste into renewable energy and bioproducts, promoting decarbonisation, circular economy, and regional development in tandem.
