Geneva/Amman, 18 February 2026 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Muslim Charity are providing urgent support to displaced Palestinian families in Gaza by delivering emergency tents to those living without safe or adequate shelter. A contribution of USD 300,000 from Muslim Charity will allow IOM to procure and distribute 448 tents, reaching an estimated 2,464 people. This collaboration aims to improve living conditions, preserve dignity, and provide basic protection amid prolonged displacement following over two years of conflict in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).
Mohammed Abdiker, IOM’s Chief of Staff, emphasized that while recovery efforts are underway, many families in Gaza still lack protection from rain, cold, and insecurity. He noted that partnerships with organizations like Muslim Charity are vital to help people survive in the immediate term while sustained humanitarian access remains essential to meet growing shelter needs.
Maroof Pirzada, UK Director of Muslim Charity, highlighted that the organization is proud to provide emergency shelter that ensures safety and dignity during a critical time. Partnering with IOM allows this assistance to be delivered through trusted UN coordination and in line with humanitarian principles, addressing one of the most urgent needs in Gaza.
Nearly all of Gaza’s 2 million residents remain displaced, often living in overcrowded, flood-prone sites or makeshift shelters made from salvaged materials. Ongoing displacement, coupled with access restrictions and shortages of durable shelter supplies, has left families without safe and dignified living conditions.
As winter conditions continue, the need for increased and sustained humanitarian access grows. Over the past four months, IOM has distributed 1.77 million relief items, including over 28,000 tents, 440,000 tarps, and 340,000 thermal blankets, supporting displaced families through the cold and rainy season.
This shelter support is facilitated through IOM’s Islamic Philanthropy Fund, launched in 2025 to channel Islamic charitable giving toward vulnerable populations. Overall, IOM’s OPT Gaza Response is currently using nearly USD 2,645,000 in contributions from various Islamic charitable organizations to provide emergency shelter assistance to displaced families in Gaza.
