Vienna, Austria, 6 February 2026 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has signed grant agreements with 47 Japanese companies to conduct feasibility studies testing their innovative technologies and business models in Ukraine. This initiative is part of UNIDO’s Green Industrial Recovery Project, which aims to support Ukraine’s post-war industrial recovery through technology transfer and joint business creation with Japan’s private sector. The program is expected to provide new skills to over 30,000 people in Ukraine and introduce 47 advanced technologies across multiple industries.
Yuko Yasunaga, UNIDO’s Deputy to the Director General, highlighted that the project will contribute to job creation, enhance industrial competitiveness, and foster new industries and innovation ecosystems in Ukraine. Ukrainian businesses will gain access to advanced technologies and innovative solutions, enabling them to modernize production and strengthen their competitiveness, with funding provided by the Government of Japan.
Vitaliу Kindrativ, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of a modern, inclusive, and energy-efficient industrial recovery. He noted that the project could serve as a model for other countries and donors on how to attract new technologies and establish joint ventures.
The initiative leverages UNIDO’s managerial expertise and networks to deliver impact across key sectors, including agribusiness, food value chains, water infrastructure, circular economy, information and communications technology, energy, hydrogen and ammonia, SME productivity, and assistive equipment and telemedicine.
Takehiko Matsuo, Vice Minister for International Affairs at Japan’s METI, noted that Japanese companies, including SMEs and startups, can contribute to Ukraine’s economic reconstruction by applying advanced technological capabilities and post-disaster recovery experience, reflecting Japan’s unique role in the project.
Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, highlighted the potential synergy between Japanese technologies and Ukrainian innovation, which he expects will revitalize industry and support social and economic recovery in the country.
