With financial support from the European Union, nine model schools in Moldova have been equipped with fully modernized laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. These upgrades aim to enhance practical learning experiences and foster student engagement in STEAM subjects.
Approximately 7,000 students and 490 teachers and school administrators will directly benefit from the improved learning conditions. Across the nine schools, a total of 38 STEAM labs and mathematics classrooms have been renovated and equipped, enabling teaching to better adapt to students’ individual needs and learning pace.
The initiative is part of the project Advancing Quality Education and Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF. Each school received investments exceeding €150,000, covering renovation works, new furniture, and modern laboratory equipment.
The laboratories feature flexible furniture, scientific instruments, microscopes, wireless sensors, and PASCO sensor kits, allowing students to conduct experiments and collect real data in physics, chemistry, and biology. A student from Alexei Mateevici High School in Dondușeni described the labs as transformative, shifting learning from textbook theory to hands-on experiments and observation.
Additionally, the libraries in two of the schools were upgraded into modern learning spaces equipped with computers, with a total investment of over €91,000 provided by OTP Bank. Teachers and school administrators are also participating in professional development programs to strengthen their teaching and digital skills, further supporting the quality of education.
