UNOPS and the government of Canada have partnered to modernize the logistics operations of the Lebanese Armed Forces Logistics Brigade, a critical unit supporting peace and security across Lebanon. The project comes at a time of significant regional challenges and aims to strengthen the Brigade’s ability to manage equipment and resources efficiently.
The modernization involved full structural rehabilitation of three warehouses, construction of a new basement, installation of upgraded operational systems, and procurement of essential equipment. These improvements will allow the Brigade to better receive, store, and distribute equipment, ensuring resources are preserved and used effectively.
Brigadier General Amine El Kai, representing the Interim Army Commander-in-Chief, highlighted that the project will significantly enhance logistical capabilities, particularly in storage, preservation, and operational readiness during security missions and emergencies.
Gregory Galligan, Ambassador of Canada to Lebanon and Syria, emphasized the long-term impact, noting that investing in modern, sustainable infrastructure strengthens the operational backbone of the Lebanese Armed Forces both now and in the future. Muhammad Usman Akram of UNOPS added that the initiative goes beyond rehabilitating physical infrastructure by also investing in systems, capacities, and personnel of this vital institution.
