BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Network, and Creative Wales have launched a new development fund aimed at supporting the creation of a Factual Entertainment series, announced at last year’s Wales Media Summit. Production companies with a significant presence in Wales were invited to pitch original and bold ideas that showcase Welsh creativity while appealing to audiences across the UK.
Four companies—Boom, Curve Media, South Shore, and Tŷ’r Ddraig—have been awarded funding to further develop their concepts for a new Factual Entertainment series. Each company will receive £10,000, with development expected to begin in the coming weeks.
Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning at BBC Cymru Wales, highlighted the quality and creativity of the submissions, emphasizing the ambition to develop formats that surprise, unite, and captivate audiences. Catherine Catton, Head of Commissioning for Factual Entertainment and Events, described the initiative as a collaboration designed to harness Welsh talent to create a major new series with nationwide appeal.
Joedi Langley, Interim Head of Creative Wales, noted that the funding builds on a recently updated Memorandum of Understanding between Creative Wales and the BBC, reflecting a commitment to support Wales’ world-class screen industries. The £40,000 fund, provided jointly by BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Network, and the Welsh Government via Creative Wales, aims to create opportunities for Welsh-based production companies to develop innovative factual content.
