Health facilities across Ukraine continue to operate under extremely challenging conditions, putting immense pressure on the country’s healthcare system. To support the continuity of essential services, WHO, in partnership with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), has delivered critical medical equipment to frontline-adjacent health facilities.
The latest shipment included 15 anaesthesia machines, 8 advanced defibrillator monitors, 15 electrosurgical units, 15 blood warmers, 7 automated biochemistry analysis devices, 1 automated microbiology analysis device, and other essential tools. This equipment is helping to enhance patient care, accelerate diagnostic processes, and strengthen laboratory biosafety, improving access to health services for more than 10 million people in areas near the frontline.
Yevheniia Viktorivna Filipova, Head of the Laboratory at the I.I. Mechnikov Regional Clinical Hospital in Dnipro, noted that the new equipment has significantly improved both the speed and quality of diagnostics. Built-in cameras allow laboratory processes to be recorded and analyzed, facilitating learning and knowledge sharing among medical staff.
WHO experts have also trained health workers to ensure safe and effective use of the new technologies in daily operations. Staff reported that the training gave them confidence and a deeper understanding of the equipment, enabling them to apply the knowledge consistently in their work.
KSRelief continues to play a vital role in supporting Ukraine’s health system, helping facilities maintain their capacity to save lives despite ongoing, complex challenges, and ensuring frontline communities have access to life-saving medical care.
