The Minns Labor Government has announced that faith-based organisations across New South Wales can access $5 million in funding to strengthen the safety and security of religious communities. The initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that people from all faiths can practise their religion safely and without fear.
This funding represents the third and final round of the $15 million Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants program. The first two rounds allocated $10 million to 258 religious organisations, and applications are now open for this final phase of support.
Successful applicants can use the grants to implement practical safety measures such as installing CCTV, secure fencing and other protective infrastructure, developing risk management plans, and accessing services that help build community resilience.
The funding is available to non-profit organisations and can be applied to a wide range of settings, including places of worship, religious schools, sites of religious significance and faith-based community centres.
The program is administered by Multicultural NSW, with applications for this round open until 4pm on Friday, 30 January 2026. Government representatives emphasised that the grants aim to help faith communities take proactive steps to protect their spaces, strengthen preparedness, and safeguard the right of all people to gather and practise their faith in safety.
