Her breakthrough came when she joined a digital youth empowerment project led by YMCA Albania with UNDP support under the LEAP UN Joint Programme. The initiative aimed to improve long-term care services for older adults while promoting digital literacy. For Fabjona, this computer-based role was ideal: it allowed her to leverage her skills and intellect in a setting where her physical challenges were not barriers to success.
Over ten months, Fabjona became a vital link between the people of Vora and the e-Albania platform. She worked primarily with older adults, simplifying complex digital processes, offering patient guidance, and transforming frustration into confidence. Her dedication ensured that each citizen’s interaction with digital services was a success, earning her recognition for her unwavering problem-solving attitude and resilience.
Fabjona’s impact did not go unnoticed. The Municipality of Vora offered her a full-time position, integrating her into the local government structure. Her role now addresses the municipality’s skills gap, supporting dozens of citizens daily and strengthening Vora’s digital infrastructure. In a community where 51% of 1,175 private businesses struggle to find qualified employees, her expertise demonstrates the value of investing in human potential.
Her journey has been supported by the LEAP Albania programme, a UN joint initiative funded by the Joint SDG Fund and implemented in partnership with the Government of Albania. LEAP focuses on systemic change, digital inclusion, and empowerment across six municipalities.
