The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has welcomed a EUR 1 million contribution from the Government of the Netherlands to its Resilience Fund, reaffirming a strong partnership and shared commitment to global migration governance. IOM Director General Amy Pope expressed deep gratitude, highlighting that the Netherlands’ flexible funding enables IOM to respond swiftly to urgent humanitarian needs, protect vulnerable migrants, and support communities in rebuilding their futures.
The new contribution will strengthen IOM’s ability to address humanitarian crises and enhance long-term resilience among migrants and displaced populations worldwide. It will also reinforce IOM’s capacity to assist Member States with migration management through technical support, policy engagement, and operations that promote safe and dignified mobility.
In 2025, the Netherlands has already provided EUR 3 million in flexible funding to IOM and continues to support several key initiatives, including the COMPASS programme, which focuses on protection and safe migration, and the Afghanistan response, delivering life-saving aid and reintegration support for returnees. These efforts demonstrate the Netherlands’ ongoing dedication to effective, rights-based migration governance.
The Resilience Fund, launched alongside IOM’s 2024 Annual Report, is part of a global campaign to mobilize USD 100 million in flexible funding. The initiative aims to ensure timely humanitarian responses, durable solutions for displacement, and enhanced resilience in fragile contexts.
Pascalle Grotenhuis, Director General for International Cooperation at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that in times of growing global instability, flexible funding is vital. She noted that the unearmarked contribution reflects confidence in IOM’s leadership and its role in promoting rights-based migration and safeguarding the dignity of people on the move.
The Netherlands remains one of IOM’s most valued partners, supporting a broad range of programmes such as Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR), counter-trafficking efforts, and migration policy development. This latest contribution further underscores the strength of their collaboration and mutual commitment to protecting migrants and strengthening resilient communities worldwide.
