The official opening of the newly renovated Stryi Higher Vocational School No. 34 was held on 30 October under the “EU4Skills: Modernization of the Infrastructure of the Vocational Education and Training System in Ukraine” project. Financed by the European Union and implemented by the German Development Bank (KfW) in partnership with the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund (USIF) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the project marks a significant step in modernizing vocational education in the country. The institution underwent a comprehensive renovation and received advanced professional equipment, with the EU’s total investment exceeding €1.5 million.
The initiative aims to provide students with access to modern learning environments that meet EU standards, enabling them to develop practical skills relevant to today’s labour market. As part of the project, more than €1 million was allocated for capital renovation of classrooms and workshops for the “Electric Gas Welder” and “Car Repair Mechanic” programmes. The premises were fully modernized with new heating, water, and electrical systems, as well as ventilation, flooring, windows, doors, and improved landscaping.
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the project delivered state-of-the-art equipment valued at over €557,000. This included new furniture, welding and auto repair machinery, laboratory stands for automotive studies, STEM tools, and computers to enhance hands-on training. These improvements allow students to train with laser and plasma technologies already used in modern industry, strengthening their competitiveness in the labour market.
Officials highlighted the project’s role in creating opportunities for young people in the Lviv region to acquire quality education and pursue modern professions. The initiative demonstrates the importance of international cooperation, particularly EU support, in transforming Ukraine’s vocational education system.
The “EU4Skills: Modernisation of Vocational Education and Training Infrastructure in Ukraine” project forms part of the broader EU4Skills: Better Skills for Modern Ukraine programme. It focuses on upgrading the equipment and infrastructure of vocational schools, enhancing the appeal of vocational education, and ensuring it aligns with labour market needs. By creating demand-driven, modern learning environments, the project contributes to building a skilled workforce for Ukraine’s economic development.
