The European Partnership FutureFoodS has announced the upcoming launch of its second Call for proposals, expected to open in the second half of November 2025, with the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) intending to make funding available again for Dutch applicants. This new Call seeks to accelerate the transition to sustainable and resilient food systems, supporting the development of healthy, safe, and environmentally responsible diets. The initiative aims to help researchers, governments, businesses, and citizens collaborate on transforming Europe’s food systems to address pressing global challenges.
FutureFoodS, officially known as the European Partnership for a Sustainable Future of Food Systems, is a collaborative platform that unites experts, research institutions, policymakers, and businesses to co-develop solutions for sustainable food production and consumption. It tackles complex challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security, promoting innovative approaches that balance economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
In the FutureFoodS 2025 Call, multiple funding agencies from across Europe are expected to participate, reinforcing transnational cooperation to support the green and digital transition in the food sector. The initiative aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Deal’s Farm to Fork Strategy, emphasizing the move towards more sustainable food systems from production to consumption. In the Netherlands, the Taskforce for Applied Research SIA and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) also plan to take part in this call.
To support applicants, a partnering tool will be made available on the FutureFoodS application system homepage to help researchers find suitable project partners. Additionally, a webinar for Dutch applicants is scheduled for 1 December 2025, offering guidance on eligibility and application procedures.
