The Ontario government has launched a provincewide vaccination campaign offering free flu and COVID-19 vaccines to everyone aged six months and older. These vaccines are available at participating pharmacies, public health units, and primary care offices across Ontario. The initiative aims to strengthen community protection during the respiratory illness season and reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalizations.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones encouraged all residents to stay updated with their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, describing them as safe, effective, and the best defense against seasonal viruses. Health experts also recommend receiving both vaccines during the same visit to simplify the process and ensure maximum protection ahead of winter.
In addition to flu and COVID-19 shots, the province is expanding access to free RSV vaccines for residents aged 75 and older, as well as high-risk adults over 60, infants under eight months, and high-risk children under two years. Pregnant women can receive the RSV vaccine to pass immunity to their newborns, while infants and young children may also be protected through the Beyfortus® immunization.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, highlighted that immunization remains one of the most effective ways to prevent serious illness and hospitalizations. He urged all eligible individuals to take advantage of the free vaccine programs available across the province.
The initiative aligns with Ontario’s “Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care,” which focuses on empowering residents to take proactive steps toward maintaining their health. The government continues to remind the public about additional preventive measures such as hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and staying home when sick to minimize virus transmission.
Ontario health leaders — including representatives from the Long-Term Care, Seniors and Accessibility ministries, the Ontario Pharmacists Association, the Ontario Medical Association, and the Ontario College of Family Physicians — all voiced strong support for the vaccination program. They emphasized that staying up to date with immunizations not only protects individuals but also helps relieve pressure on the healthcare system during the peak illness season.
