EIB Global, the development arm of the European Investment Bank, has announced a commitment of up to $60 million to the India Energy Transition Fund, managed by EAAA Alternatives. With a target size of $300 million, the fund aims to accelerate private capital investment in sustainable infrastructure and support India’s decarbonisation goals. This marks India’s first energy transition fund managed by a domestic fund manager and aligns with the EU’s Global Gateway strategy to promote sustainable connectivity. The announcement was made in New Delhi by EIB Vice-President Nicola Beer and EAAA Alternatives CEO Subahoo Chordia.
The India Energy Transition Fund will channel equity and quasi-equity into greenfield infrastructure projects and growth-stage companies across sectors such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric vehicles, battery storage, and circular economy initiatives including recycling and wastewater management. Most of the investments will focus on climate action and environmental sustainability, contributing directly to India’s efforts to strengthen energy security, reduce emissions, and improve affordability.
EIB Vice-President Nicola Beer highlighted the importance of the partnership in deepening EU-India cooperation on climate action. She emphasized that this collaboration demonstrates how EIB Global mobilizes capital under the EU’s Global Gateway strategy to accelerate renewable energy and deliver tangible benefits for households and businesses in India. Subahoo Chordia, CEO of EAAA Alternatives, stated that EIB Global’s investment brings depth and credibility to India’s clean energy efforts, helping to attract additional private capital, foster innovation, and deliver long-term sustainable growth.
Through this initiative, the fund will provide growth equity to unlock projects under development, support companies leading clean energy innovation, and promote technology and investment exchange between India and the European Union. The partnership underscores India’s commitment to sustainable development while strengthening economic and environmental ties with Europe.
