Between July 2024 and July 2025, Qatar Charity, with support from charitable donors in Qatar, constructed 256 fully equipped mosques across Bangladesh. These new mosques have provided a safe and dignified environment for more than 51,200 worshippers in rural and semi-urban areas, allowing them to perform their religious rituals in a faithful and comfortable atmosphere. The initiative has replaced temporary and fragile prayer spaces with sturdy buildings designed for both worship and community engagement.
Each mosque is equipped with ablution areas, prayer rugs, lighting, fans, and loudspeakers, creating suitable spaces for prayer, education, and social activities. This development addresses the urgent need in many communities where worshippers previously prayed in tin or mud structures that were unsafe and uncomfortable. Inadequate ventilation, flooding during the rainy season, and poor facilities had previously discouraged attendance and limited community gatherings.
Local leaders highlighted the transformative impact of the new mosques on community life. Muhammad Babul Khan from Barisal described how the mosque’s upgrade replaced a dilapidated tin shack, allowing people to pray safely and comfortably. Beyond daily prayers, the mosques now host Quran lessons, youth activities, and community meetings, fostering a vibrant spiritual and social environment.
Community members emphasized that the mosques have strengthened social bonds and become central to village life. Abu Ali, secretary of a mosque in Faridpur, noted that the mosques now serve as living centers for education, meetings, and cultural activities, reflecting the broader social benefits of the initiative. Government officials recognized the program as an investment in Bangladesh’s spiritual and social fabric, promoting education, unity, and community cohesion.
Zakaria Ali Al-Mutairi, Director of Qatar Charity’s Bangladesh office, stressed that the satisfaction of beneficiaries is the organization’s greatest reward, and that these mosques are expected to remain places of peace, unity, and guidance for generations. Over the past five years, Qatar Charity has completed more than 600 mosques across Bangladesh, providing safe spaces for over 150,000 worshippers to perform religious rituals.
