As part of Expo Ganadera del Centro in Córdoba on September 30th, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Argentina hosted a regional workshop on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), under the SCALA project. Developed in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), SCALA aims to support the sustainable transition of the agricultural sector through innovative, low-carbon, and climate-adapted practices.
The hybrid workshop brought together officials and technicians from government departments focused on agriculture and climate change across Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, and Santa Fe, as well as representatives from the National Government. Provincial coordinators, GAP board members, key institutions such as INTA, and the academic sector also participated. UNDP’s team included Matias Mottet and Nahuel Pugliese from the Environment and Sustainable Development Area, SCALA Project Coordinator Carla Pascale Medina, GAP specialist consultant Nieves Pascuzzi, Marcelo Borré, Coordinator of Inclusive Insurance Projects, and SCALA project consultants.
The workshop focused on sharing provincial experiences in implementing GAPs as tools for climate adaptation and mitigation, strengthening collaboration through provincial networks and public-private partnerships, and advancing the design of a regional protocol integrating climate-smart techniques into GAPs.
SCALA, a global program, seeks to improve agricultural production models in Argentina, promoting environmentally sustainable, innovative, and low-carbon practices. By enhancing resilience, efficiency, and access to sustainable markets, SCALA helps the sector adapt to climate challenges while fostering long-term sustainability.
The SCALA project was recently presented at the CREA Congress, a non-profit association of agricultural entrepreneurs, highlighting its role in advancing climate-smart agriculture and fostering collaboration among farmers and policymakers.
