On 7 October 2025, Sweden will host a high-level summit on new nuclear energy in the Baltic Sea region, led by Minister for Energy, Business and Industry Ebba Busch along with several ministerial colleagues. Finland’s Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will co-host the event. The summit reflects strong regional interest in nuclear energy, with countries such as Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Poland taking active steps to expand their nuclear capabilities.
Global momentum for nuclear energy is growing, with the International Energy Agency noting the highest level of interest since the 1970s oil crisis. At a side event during the UN COP28 Climate Change Conference, over 20 countries initially endorsed a declaration to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050, a figure that has since grown to more than 30 countries. This surge is driven by the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and ensure a stable and reliable energy supply.
The Swedish government is inviting ministers from neighboring countries, international nuclear energy stakeholders, industry representatives, suppliers, and potential investors to the Nordic-Baltic Nuclear Investment Summit in Stockholm. The summit aims to facilitate collaboration and investment in next-generation nuclear technologies.
The event is supported by several Swedish and Finnish ministers, including Ebba Busch, Minister for Finance Elisabeth Svantesson, Minister for Financial Markets Niklas Wykman, and Minister for Climate and the Environment Romina Pourmokhtari, along with Finland’s Sari Multala. The summit is being organized in cooperation with Sweden’s National Nuclear New-build Coordinator Carl Berglöf.
