The British Embassy in Dublin has officially been awarded its AsIAm Autism Accreditation, becoming the first autism-friendly embassy in Ireland and the first within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) network worldwide. This milestone reflects the Embassy’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion for both visitors and staff.
The accreditation is the result of more than 18 months of work led by the Embassy’s respect, diversity and inclusion committee, in partnership with AsIAm, Ireland’s national autism charity. The process involved staff training, consultation, and the introduction of practical measures designed to make the Embassy more welcoming and supportive for autistic individuals.
These measures included the establishment of sensory rooms, enhanced wayfinding supports, and other adjustments that improve the overall environment. Looking ahead, the Embassy plans to build on this achievement by extending autism-friendly adaptations to the Ambassador’s residence by 2026.
