A new water filtration machine, funded and technically supported by Concern Worldwide and its local partner CESVI, is now supplying thousands of litres of clean water daily to Gaza’s last operational children’s hospital in Gaza City. The 150-bed Al Rantisis Hospital, which treats up to 350 patients daily, benefits from the reverse osmosis machine producing 15,000 litres of clean water each day. This supply not only supports the hospital’s general needs but also ensures the effective operation of 13 kidney dialysis machines. The filter unit is mobile and lightweight, allowing it to be quickly relocated to a safe area if necessary.
The water situation in Gaza remains critical, with only 79 functional water wells accessible across the territory, down from over 220 in April. In early July, a key reservoir in Khan Younis became inaccessible due to displacement orders, raising concerns about a potential collapse of the main water distribution system. The lack of safe water has contributed to a surge in health issues, including acute watery diarrhoea, particularly in densely populated shelters in Khan Younis and Gaza governorates.
To address these urgent needs, CESVI, in partnership with Concern, continues to truck clean water for drinking and cooking to displaced populations in ten locations across Khan Younis, Deir al Balah, and Gaza City, reaching over 100,000 people with regular deliveries. Additionally, the organization is improving water and sanitation services by constructing latrines, installing cisterns, conducting hygiene promotion sessions, and distributing hygiene kits containing soap, water containers, and sanitary products. These interventions aim to mitigate the spread of disease and improve living conditions amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
