Comcast has announced a $50,000 donation to the San Bruno Education Foundation (SBEF) during a community barbecue held on August 22. The contribution will support a range of afterschool programs that emphasize technology and digital learning opportunities, aiming to expand access and foster skill development for local students.
David Tashjian, regional senior vice president of Comcast’s California Region, emphasized the company’s commitment to investing in communities where it operates. He noted that the funding reflects Comcast’s dedication to empowering San Bruno’s youth by offering opportunities that encourage creativity, build confidence, and prepare students for the future. This initiative follows Comcast’s March acquisition of CityNet Services, San Bruno’s municipally owned broadband network, which is expected to bring faster, more reliable multi-gigabit speeds to over 5,400 households and businesses.
The San Bruno Education Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds that directly benefit children in the San Bruno Park School District, spanning pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. With its volunteer-driven structure, the foundation ensures that donations directly enhance enrichment programs and educational opportunities for students.
Heather Latta, president of SBEF, expressed gratitude for Comcast’s support, noting that the donation will significantly enhance afterschool programs and expand digital skills training for students. She highlighted that this investment will provide both academic and creative opportunities, strengthening the educational experience across the district.
Comcast’s community engagement extends beyond network investments, focusing on advancing digital equity and economic mobility. Through initiatives like Internet Essentials, the company offers affordable high-speed Internet and devices to eligible households. In addition, Comcast has contributed over $130.5 million in cash and in-kind donations over the past three years to support California nonprofits, WiFi-connected Lift Zones, and digital literacy programs, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to bridging the digital divide.
