The Fremont Department of Utilities (DU) has been awarded a $1,914,455 grant through the Nebraska Grid Resiliency Grant Program, which is funded by the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The grant was awarded by the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment to support efforts to strengthen the resilience of Fremont’s electric grid.
In 2024, DU was invited to submit a full application after a successful pre-application round. The submitted proposal outlined a project to relocate the 69kV transmission line that currently runs from Substation G to Substation B. Presently, the 69kV circuits from Substation A and Substation G to Substation B share the same utility poles. The relocation project aims to separate these lines physically, thereby enhancing grid reliability and simplifying future maintenance.
This transmission line project is part of DU’s larger Capital Improvement Plan and is expected to significantly improve Fremont’s electrical infrastructure. As part of the grant conditions, DU will contribute a minimum match of $925,447.55. The overall project cost is estimated at just under $5 million, with DU investing approximately $3,072,307 toward its completion.
