On July 21, 2025, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) launched a partnership with Careem, a leading multi-service platform in the Middle East, to support emergency food assistance efforts in Gaza and the West Bank. The collaboration, activated through WFP’s ShareTheMeal app, allows users in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates to make in-app donations via Careem’s “Right Click” platform.
Despite increasingly dangerous conditions and restricted access in Gaza, WFP continues to deliver life-saving food aid. A recent assessment revealed that nearly one in three people in the region are experiencing severe food insecurity, with some going days without eating. Since May 21, WFP has dispatched over 1,200 aid trucks carrying 18,247 metric tons of food into Gaza.
Through the new donation feature, Careem users can contribute to WFP’s emergency operations, funding the delivery of essential items such as wheat flour, hot meals, and nutrition supplements. WFP aims to reach over 1.5 million people across Gaza and the West Bank in 2025. The urgency is especially high in Gaza, where food prices have skyrocketed and basic resources like cooking fuel are nearly unobtainable. WFP has already pre-positioned over 116,000 metric tons of food just outside Gaza—enough to sustain the entire population for two months.
This campaign builds on Careem’s existing efforts in social impact, with the company facilitating over $200,000 in donations so far in 2025 for causes including emergency relief and education. The WFP campaign is now live in both Jordan and the UAE, allowing Careem users to support humanitarian efforts directly through the app.
