The Ontario government is investing $7.5 million to support small and medium-sized businesses across the province in modernizing their operations through the adoption of digital technologies. The initiative aims to enhance productivity and sales, particularly in sectors like retail, by helping companies access the necessary tools and expert support.
The funding is channeled through the Digitalization Competence Centre (DCC), which provides training, guidance, and up to $115,000 in targeted grants to businesses seeking digital solutions developed in Ontario. This effort is part of a broader strategy to ensure that small businesses remain competitive in the digital economy.
A significant portion of the investment, $5 million, is dedicated to the Digital Modernization and Adoption Plan (DMAP), delivered by the Ontario Centre of Innovation. This program assists businesses in assessing their digital needs and developing tailored digital strategies with expert consultants. Companies participating in DMAP have reported a collective increase of $380 million in revenue.
Businesses completing a DMAP project can access further support through the Technology Demonstration Program, which offers up to $100,000 in matching funds to help companies purchase and implement new technologies that spur growth and job creation.
An additional $2.5 million is allocated specifically to small businesses in the retail sector. This funding will support technology adoption in areas such as online payments, inventory management, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The Retail Modernization Project Grant offers up to $5,000 in matched funding for retail businesses to upgrade their digital capabilities.
These investments are part of Ontario’s broader economic plan to build a competitive and resilient economy, helping businesses navigate uncertainties while fostering growth and innovation.
