The World Health Organization (WHO), through its Global Knowledge Network for Health Equity (GKNHE) and the WHO Collaborating Centre on Health in All Policies and the Social Determinants of Health, is organizing a webinar focused on governance for health equity. The session will examine how effective governance can address the social determinants of health and contribute to reducing health inequities across populations.
The webinar will highlight the critical role governance plays in shaping equitable health outcomes by promoting policy coherence, multisectoral collaboration, and inclusive public participation. Participants will gain insights into how countries are designing and implementing governance frameworks that support integrated approaches to health equity.
Drawing from international case studies, the session will present practical experiences and innovations from Australia and Canada. These examples will showcase how governance systems can adapt to local contexts while ensuring accountability, stakeholder engagement, and cross-sector partnerships in health equity policy-making.
A panel discussion and Q&A segment will allow participants to engage with global experts and national representatives, further enriching the dialogue around best practices, implementation challenges, and policy innovations in the governance of health equity.
This webinar targets policymakers, government officials, researchers, and practitioners involved in health equity and governance. It also welcomes advocates and stakeholders from sectors intersecting with health and well-being.
The event will be conducted in English, with real-time interpretation available in French and Spanish, to facilitate wider international participation. Featured speakers include Dr. Etienne Krug, Director of WHO’s Department of Health Promotion and Social Determinants of Health, and Dr. Sudhvir Singh, Unit Head of Equity and Health at WHO, who will present key findings and recommendations from the World Report on the Social Determinants of Health Equity (SDHE).
