Empowering Communities: Call for Proposals for Small-Scale Projects 2024 in Cambodia

Dated: October 17, 2024

The Embassy of the Czech Republic has announced its annual call for proposals for Small-Scale Projects (SSP) aimed at enhancing social development and natural resource management in Cambodia. This initiative, which has been a vital part of Czech Development Cooperation since 2006, invites local organizations to submit their project ideas by the deadline of October 18, 2023.

Key Takeaways

  • Deadline for Proposals: October 18, 2023
  • Funding Range: 200,000 CZK to 500,000 CZK (approximately $9,000 to $23,000)
  • Eligible Applicants: Local non-political and non-governmental organizations
  • Focus Areas: Inclusive social development and natural resources management

Overview of the Call for Proposals

The Small-Scale Projects initiative is designed to complement larger, multi-year projects implemented by the Czech Development Agency (CzDA). The focus is on projects that align with the priority areas of Czech Development Cooperation in Cambodia, particularly in health, education, and sustainable management of natural resources.

Qualifying Projects

To be eligible for funding, projects must:

  • Address priority areas such as inclusive social development and natural resources management.
  • Collaborate with Czech entities, utilizing Czech products and expertise.
  • Align with Cambodia’s National Development Strategy and contribute to Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Demonstrate sustainability, ensuring the project can continue without external financial support.

Available Funding

The funding provided by the Czech Republic for each project ranges from:

  • Minimum: 200,000 CZK (approx. $9,000)
  • Maximum: 500,000 CZK (approx. $23,000)

Co-funding from applicants or other sources is encouraged. However, overhead costs must be covered by the applicant, and the total costs for salaries, travel, and other personal expenses should not exceed 25% of the total project costs. Administrative costs are not eligible for funding.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Eligible applicants must demonstrate independent legal status in Cambodia and include:

  • Local non-political and non-governmental organizations.
  • Local entities that can sign contracts under Czech law.
  • Civil society organizations and institutions working at the local level.

International organizations may also apply if they collaborate with local partners on local projects.

Terms of Project Implementation

Proposals can be modified based on feedback from the Embassy until the submission deadline. Successful applicants will need to sign a contract with the Embassy, which will outline the timeline for project implementation and reporting requirements. Projects can only commence after the contract is signed.

This call for proposals represents a significant opportunity for local organizations in Cambodia to secure funding for impactful projects that contribute to the country’s development goals. Interested parties are encouraged to prepare their proposals in alignment with the outlined criteria and submit them before the deadline.
