Maitland City Council is inviting local community groups and organisations to apply for funding through its Biannual Community Grants Program, which supports initiatives that strengthen community connections and contribute to a thriving city. Grants of up to $6,000 are available for Community Projects and up to $4,000 for Community Celebrations, helping bring local ideas to life while promoting inclusion and addressing community needs.
The Community Projects Grants stream funds initiatives that create measurable positive outcomes, such as promoting social connection, building community capacity, increasing participation in arts and culture, and enhancing access to recreational and wellbeing activities. Funding is available under three subcategories: Community Strengthening, Creative Community, and Healthy Active Living.
The Community Celebrations Grants stream supports events and activities that bring people together, celebrate local identity, and mark cultural or social milestones. This includes funding for Commemorative Days like ANZAC Day, as well as Recognised Days and Weeks such as NAIDOC Week and International Women’s Day.
Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold highlighted that the program provides vital support for local groups to deliver projects and events that foster community engagement, celebrate arts, culture, sport, and diversity, and strengthen social connections across the city.
Council will host two information sessions on 31 March and 7 April at the Maitland Administration Centre for community members to learn more about the grant application process. Applications are open from 30 March to 11 May 2026 for projects scheduled to take place before 30 June 2027. More details, eligibility criteria, and guidelines are available at mait.city/BiannualGrantsProgram, and assistance can be requested via the Council’s Community Planning team at (02) 4934 9700 or community.grants@maitland.nsw.gov.au.
