Businesses across Hampshire, Sussex, Kent and the Isle of Wight are being invited to apply for funding to support innovative water-saving projects through the Business Partnership Fund.
Launched by Southern Water, the fund aims to help businesses, retailers and conservation providers reduce water usage and lower costs. The latest application window opened on 1 April 2026 and will remain open until 15 July 2026.
The initiative encourages collaboration between businesses, water-efficiency organisations and retailers to develop practical solutions that reduce reliance on mains water. Since its launch in 2023, the fund has supported a range of projects, including rainwater harvesting systems, water-efficient installations in public spaces, and conservation efforts in schools and leisure facilities. Collectively, these initiatives have saved more than 50 megalitres of water—equivalent to around 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Funded projects have included water-saving technologies in hotels, rainwater collection systems for allotments, upgrades to water-efficient washrooms in community halls, and the use of recycled water in construction operations.
With increasing pressure from population growth, climate change and low rainfall, South East England faces a growing risk of water demand exceeding supply by 2030. The fund is designed to encourage businesses to adopt innovative approaches to water conservation and contribute to long-term sustainability.
Kayleigh Sharman highlighted the success of previous projects and encouraged new applicants to come forward with creative ideas, ranging from rainwater harvesting and water reuse systems to behavioural change initiatives.
The new round of funding offers an opportunity for businesses to play a key role in addressing water scarcity while improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.
