The Government of Türkiye has reaffirmed its strong partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by continuing its annual contribution of $1.2 million to UNDP’s core resources under its 2025–2027 multi-year commitment. The country has also made an early payment of its 2026 core contribution, highlighting its continued support at a time when flexible funding is increasingly important for addressing complex global challenges.
UNDP noted that Türkiye’s sustained support comes as flexible resources are essential for responding to crises and advancing long-term development goals. As a regional leader and active global development partner, Türkiye continues to expand its role in international development efforts, including climate and environmental action, humanitarian response, and recovery in fragile and crisis-affected settings.
As one of UNDP’s important strategic partners, Türkiye’s core funding helps the agency deliver development solutions where they are needed most. This flexible support contributes to UNDP’s work in key priority areas such as climate action, resilience-building, sustainable economic development, and inclusive governance, while also supporting broader regional and global initiatives.
In addition to its core contribution, Türkiye also provides $1.8 million annually to UNDP’s Regional Programme for Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The country also continues to support the Istanbul Regional Hub and the Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector in Development, further strengthening regional and global cooperation, innovation, and private sector engagement in sustainable development.
UNDP emphasized that core contributions are especially valuable because they not only fund programmes but also strengthen oversight, accountability, and transparent delivery of results. These resources help ensure that development programmes are implemented effectively and efficiently, supporting UNDP’s reputation as one of the world’s most transparent international organisations.
Looking ahead, UNDP said it will continue to work closely with Türkiye, building on a long-standing partnership and shared commitment to sustainable development and multilateral cooperation. The organisation also expressed interest in continuing collaboration around Türkiye’s COP31 Presidency, as well as supporting the country’s leadership on global climate action, zero waste, and the circular economy.
