The European Investment Bank (EIB), European Investment Fund (EIF), and Santander Consumer Bank (SCB) have launched a synthetic securitisation to unlock PLN 860 million in funding for Polish SMEs and individuals investing in green projects, such as electric vehicles, solar panels, and energy efficiency. Under the transaction, the EIB Group guarantees a portfolio of existing SCB consumer loans, freeing up capital for new lending with reduced interest rates and better access to credit.
The initiative, part of the EU’s REPowerEU plan, will support environmentally sustainable investments and deepen Europe’s securitisation market. EIF provides mezzanine protection, counter-guaranteed by the EIB, while SCB retains senior and junior tranche credit risks. This partnership strengthens retail lending capacity for green projects, continues the EIB Group’s record of promoting sustainable financing, and builds on previous green securitisations in Poland and other EU countries.
